How to Apply
We are excited to have you join our Honolulu Community College (HonCC) ‘ohana! Please follow the steps below to enroll.
Complete the Online Application
First, complete the Online Application. Check out our application video for tips on completing the application. Note: Login required for online application. If this is your first time applying, you must create an account.
The deadline to submit your online application and supporting documents is:
- Fall term: June 15
- Spring term: November 1
We do not accept international students for the summer session.

Evidence of Financial Support
Obtain Evidence of Financial Support. Obtain a letter from your bank or your sponsor’s bank (on bank letterhead) verifying savings of at least $28,913 USD for the first year of study. The letter should be dated no earlier than six months before the date of enrollment. Your financial sponsor should also fill out section C2 on the Supplemental Information Form. Please understand that our associate degree programs typically take two years to complete and as an international student you will be required to maintain full-time status by enrolling in 12 credits or more each semester. Submit a Copy of Your High School Transcripts or Diploma
If you are under 18 years of age or applying for the Cosmetology program, please submit a copy of your high school transcripts or diploma. Students are responsible to obtain official translation of transcripts or diplomas, if documents are not in English.
Demonstrate English Proficiency

You do NOT need English proficiency test scores if one of the following applies to you:
- Your native language is English.
- You have completed 30 transfer level semester credits OR ENG 100 (or equivalent) with a “C” or higher from a regionally accredited college or university in the US, Australia, Great Britain, Canada or New Zealand.
- You have completed 3 years of high school education in the United States, Britain or Canada.
Submit Health Clearance Forms (required to register for classes)
- TB clearance must be from an M.D. in the U.S.
- MMR, Tdap, and Varicella immunization records from an international student’s home country are only acceptable if the immunization record is reviewed, interpreted, and signed off by a U.S. M.D.
- International students should plan to arrive in Hawaii in enough time to take their TB shot and any other required immunization shots.

For Transfer Students Only
If you are currently attending another college in the United States, submit the Verification of Enrollment (PDF) to the International Student Office at your school. Once the form is complete, please have the college send the form directly to HonCC.
We encourage you to submit official transcripts from all institutions of higher education that you have previously attended so that we can transfer any prior earned credit to your degree at HonCC. Official transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to the HonCC Records Office. Hand carried transcripts, even though unopened, cannot be considered official.
Students who have not demonstrated good academic standing at their previous school will not be accepted.

Placement Testing
Once you have been accepted to the college, we will send you information on when and where to take your placement test. All new students need to take the Placement Test to determine current levels of English and Math skills. The test should be taken before registering for courses.
