PACE workshops are geared to meet training and enrichment needs of early childhood practitioners on O‘ahu
About the Program
Professional and Career Education for Early Childhood (PACE) is a non-credit program under the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program. These workshops may be used for Child Development Associate (CDA) teacher training hours, DHS training hours, and when converted to credit may be used towards the Associate Degree in ECE.
Courses
Courses are offered in a non-credit workshop format of sixteen 3-hour class sessions each. The workshops can be taken in any order. Participants who complete all sixteen workshops in a course with a score of 70% or better are eligible for Community College credit. PACE workshops are offered in various locations on O‘ahu.

This course fulfills CDA subject areas 4, 5, 6, & 7 and DHS mandatory training. When converted to credit (3 credits), ECED 105 is a required course for the ECE associate degree.
ECED 170 Introduction to Working with Infants and Toddlers

Online Workshop sessions begin August 25, 2022.
This course may be used for the Infant/Toddler CDA renewal and DHS mandatory training. When converted to credit (3 credits), ECED 170 is a required course for the ECE Infant/Toddler option or an elective for the Preschool option associate degree.
PACE Participant Guide
The PACE Participant Guide (PDF) explains the PACE Program, contains descriptions of all PACE workshops, and how to register for workshops. Monitoring sheets for each course and the CDA worksheet are also included. The guide is in PDF format and is 54 pages long. The PACE Participant Guide is also available for purchase at the Honolulu Community College Bookstore. PACE Program Credit Conversion Policy (PDF): One of the unique features of the PACE Program is the ability to convert non-credit workshops to official credit for Honolulu Community College courses. There is no additional cost for Hawai‘i residents.
Tuition Assistance
The Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR) offers Employment & Training Funds (ETF). Participating employers pay half the tuition and DLIR pays the other half. Email the PACE office for application forms. Registration is by units only.
