COURSE EVALUATION

Please indicate how you feel about the following statements as you complete this evaluation for this Web-based PHIL 120: Science, Technology, and Values.

Strongly Agree Agree Neutral Disagree Strongly Disagree NA

The course procedures and mechanics were clearly explained on the Main Page and Open Lecture Page.

The delivery system or technology was reliable & stable.
I received regular and helpful feedback from the instructor on the quality of my writing in this WI class.

The SUPPLEMENT PAGE was clear and easy to use.

As an "E" Focus class, I learned a lot about ethical issues in science and technology, the tools and methods often used to deliberate on ethical issues, and had an ample opportunity to deliberate on some of the issues.

The instructor's e-mails and Discussion Forums provided interaction between faculty and students and among students to meet my needs.

Overall, the instructor appeared to know the subject matter very well and to genuinely care that students do well in this course. I will recommend it.

Please elaborate (below) on the E-focus objectives of this course.

To what degree do you believe you now have a good understanding of the different critical TOOLS traditionally used in ethical deliberation, such as utilitarianism and principle-based methodology?

To what degree do you believe you now have an understanding of the difference between moral and cognitive values and how moral judgments influence the direction of science and technology?

Please elaborate on the ethical deliberation aspect of this course. Did this course help you clarify your values and moral positions on significant issues? Do you believe you are more aware now of the importance of ethical deliberation?

Overall, what did you think about the layout of the course via the Supplement Page, the instructor's textbook, lectures, and feedback?

What did you like MOST or LEAST about taking this class on the web?

Given the nature of Web courses, what would improve this course? Should it be put on WebCT or was this process easier?

Concerning the LEVEL OF WORK assigned each week, did you feel there was too little, about the right amount, too much, given the course goals and objectives?

In the space below, please write any additional comments that would help improve the delivery or instruction of this course in this format. (You can discuss the distance procedures or the science and ethics material covered - or both!)
