President/Executive Director's Evaluation - Spring 2010

Each year, the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii (JCCH) Board of Directors evaluates the performance of its Executive Director/President.

What follows is a job description for Lenny Andrew, the President and Executive Director of JCCH. The survey asks you to rate her performance in each category using a five-point scale.

Please choose the appropriate number rating based on your experiences and observations of the President/Executive Director during the past 12 months. To do this, simply check the appropriate box on the number bar line for each job task.

Manage all business operations of the Center in a manner consistent with the promotion and achievement of its mission.

Be responsible for the operational and financial performance of the Center, including the development of fiscal controls. Ensure that appropriate performance measures to monitor and evaluate the Center's operational and financial performance are developed and employed.

Prepare an annual operating budget for the Center for review and approval by the Board of Directors

Oversee the preparation of timely operational and financial reports for submission to the Board of Directors.

Develop and maintain a plan of management, including, but not limited to, an organizational chart and position descriptions, that shall be submitted to the Directors for review and approval. Submit any subsequent material changes to the management plan to the Board of Directors for review and approval.

Supervise all employees of the Center and manage the recruitment, hiring, disciplining, or termination of employees within positions and subject to budgetary limits approved by the Board of Directors.

Establish a climate within the Center that promotes positive morale and good working relationships among employees and enables the Center to attract and retain highly qualified and motivated employees.

Oversee and manage all vendor relationships and monitor compliance with the terms and conditions of all vendor contracts.

Oversee the development of a technology plan to enhance the Center's technological capabilities, including, but not limited to development of an enhanced website to be utilized as a robust and multifaceted tool for communication, productivity, outreach, and achievement of the business and programmatic goals of the Center.

Oversee the preparation of timely submission of filings with regulatory agencies and taxing authorities. Ensure compliance with all legal requirements to maintain in good standing the Center's tax exempt status as a 501 (c) (3) organization.

Formulate a long range plan for the realization of the Center's mission that shall be submitted to the Board of Directors for its review and approval. Be responsible for keeping the Board of Directors informed regarding the condition of the Center and those factors that may materially affect the Center. Provide the Board of Directors with timely reports on the achievement of the plans, goals and objectives of the Center, including, but not limited to periodic financial reports, revenue forecasts, and operations reports.

Be responsible for ensuring compliance with all corporate requirements including those set forth in the Center's Charter of Incorporation, its Bylaws, and by law.

In conjunction with the Chairman of the Board , prepare the agenda and coordinate all Board of Directors meetings. Oversee the preparation of minutes of the meetings of the Board of Directors. Brief the Board of Directors on matters that require their consideration and approval. Respond to all inquiries made by the Board of Directors.

Serve as an ex-officio, non-voting, member of the Board of Directors, the Board of Governors, and each Standing Committee.
