Who should research scholarships?
- EVERYONE who is thinking of going to college should research scholarships.
Why do you have to research scholarships?
- Someone wants to help you go to college by helping you with your tuition.
- There are thousands of different types of scholarships for students including those based on academics, ethnicity, gender, specified subjects,
- Scholarships are awarded for many different criteria, so you need to start researching which ones you are eligible to receive and what you have to do in order to receive them.
How do I start researching scholarships?
- Attend scholarship workshops. HCC will be holding them throughout the year. Check the monthly calendar of events that will be posted in your homeroom.
- The Internet has many scholarship search engines that can help you get started on your scholarship search. Stop and see us at the lunchroom to get a reference sheet giving you Internet addresses to check out.
- Look at the financial aid websites of the college/university you would like to attend to search for more specific scholarships for that campus.
When should I start researching scholarships?
- You should start researching scholarships your sophomore and junior years in high school. Starting to search for scholarship early allows you to complete requirements such as writing a personal statement, community and school service and letters of recommendation in time for your application deadline.
