What are scholarships?
- A scholarship is money that is awarded for education purposes. You do don’t have to pay back scholarship money.
Who can apply for scholarships?
- EVERYONE who is thinking of going to college can apply for scholarships. They are thousands of different types of scholarships including those based on academics, ethnicity, gender, specified subjects, financial need and many, many more.
- The Internet has many scholarship search engines that can help you get started on your scholarship search.
When should I start applying for scholarships?
- You should start applying for scholarships your junior and senior years in high school. Starting to apply for scholarships early allows you and your family time to know how you will pay for your education.
- Most scholarship applications will be due in February and March of the year you are going to graduate. Some can even be earlier, so make sure you check.
How many scholarships can I apply for?
- As many as want as long as you meet the eligibility requirements. By using the Hawaii Community Foundation on-line application you will have access to over 120 different scholarship funds. Students applying to through this program can, if eligible, can be awarded one or more scholarships. Workshops will be held that will allow you apply on line with help form GEAR UP counselors.
