RUNNING START
(last update Thu, Sep 6, 2007)

What is the Running Start program?
  • The Running Start Program is a partnership with the Department of Education and the University of Hawaii that allows high school juniors and seniors to attend college classes while earning both high school and college credits.
  • The courses you take in college will meet your high school requirement. Grades you earn will become a permanent part of both your high school and college transcripts.
  • Running Start gives students an opportunity to experience what college is like and become familiar with the demands of college level work.

 How do I get started?

  • Students can register after getting the “Running Start DOE Enrollment Form” application and permission from their parent/guardian to take college classes and the high school principal and the college counselor approves it.
  • You will need to take the COMPASS test and apply to the college where you plan to take classes.

 Will this cost me?

  • You will have to pay for the tuition and books needed for your class. Financial aid is available through the GEAR UP program for students who qualify. GEAR UP funding is limited so get your application and paperwork done early so you will be considered.

Sound like something you would like to do? To learn more email your counselor and look on the events calendar for deadlines you will need to meet. your.roadmap@gmail.com
