What factors go into receiving an athletic scholarship?
- First you want to find a college or university that is interested in having you as an athlete at their school. You need to get their attention so they will offer you a scholarship. You can do that by sending tapes of your performance at high school, articles and recommendations from your coach or coaches.
- The second requirement is meeting the NCAA rules for meeting academic requirements.
What are eligibility standards for college scholarships?
- For students entering any Division I college or universities on or after August 1, 2008, your NCAA initial eligibility will be evaluated under the 16 core-course rule. This means you will have to successfully completed:
- Four years of English, 2 years of math (Algebra I or higher), 2 years of natural/physical science (1 year of a lab if offered by high school), 2 years of social science, 3 years of additional courses. The new rule will increase the number of core courses from 13 to 14.
