MAY FACULTY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MINUTES

Members Present: Pat Gooch, Femar Lee, Mario Mediati, and Rick Ziegler
Guests: Grace Funai, Charlene Gima, and Chris Hacskaylo

Introductions were made for the new people that will join the committee in the fall.

1. Spring Activities - Mario reported that the after graduation party planning was complete. Ramsey donated $300 from his Chancellor's Enrichment UH Foundation account and Jerry facilitated using the excess funds from this semester's Excellence in Education Day.
2. Disruptive Student Audio Conference - While this conference seemed to be directed at K-12, it was still deemed worthwhile. The committee agreed that we should continue this discussion and offer a series of seminars on this topic in the fall.
3. 2007/2008 Activities - the following were identified as activities to be coordinated during the next academic year:
   1. Seminar on disruptive students
   2. Workshop and information session on campus emergency response.
      • What to do in the event of a natural disaster such as a tsunami.
      • Campus response to an event such as the VA Tech shootings.
   3. Workshop on how to grade/correct writing for non-English instructors.
   4. Workshop for faculty presenting to campus tour groups.
