Welcome to the Human Services ProgramUniversity of Hawaii Honolulu Community College![]() Mission Statement: The mission of the Human Services Program at Honolulu Community College (HCC) is to prepare individuals for immediate employment as human services and social services workers and to provide academic planning and support those who wish to transfer to baccalaureate human services and social work programs. Curriculum: The program provides training and education in core knowledge and skills at a paraprofessional level. The curriculum is based on an interdisciplinary approach that emphasizes social work, life span human development, family system theory and practice, and incorporates the broad spectrum of human services. Students are also encouraged to develop a broad general education foundation to support their personal and professional development. The practicum or internship component provides students an opportunity to apply theory to practice. It is at the practicum site that students acquire experiences that enhance their knowledge and skills specific to the field of practice (e.g. current street drugs, elder and child protective procedures, supervised home visits, case record keeping, and legal and ethical considerations). Academic Credentials: The Human Services Program offers the following credentials to individuals who want to work with people in a helping capacity and to those who already employed in the field:
The program also offers noncredit
short-term training to
meet immediate in-service training needs such as in the area of
substance abuse
counseling. Click on the following links for more information:
