Lab Policies:
- To enter the Native Hawaiian Computer Lab (NHCL) you must submit a UH system student ID with current semester sticker to the lab monitor on duty and sign in on the check in computer. You will then be given an assigned seat within the lab. Your student ID will be returned upon exiting the NHCL.
- NO food or drinks allowed in the lab. Food and drinks must be placed by the sign-in counter when entering the lab and must be removed when leaving the lab.
- Phones should be on vibrate or silent when entering the computer lab.
- Take or place all phone calls outside the computer lab.
- Take all personal belongings, save your work and log off from your machine if leaving the lab for an extended period of time (more than 10 minutes). If you are gone from the lab for more than 10 minutes, the lab reserves the right to move your belongings to the side and log you off from the machine.
- Keep noise level to a minimum. (Also applies to earphones and headphones)
- Headphones can be provided by a Lab Monitor.
- Staff will monitor computer usage.
Lab/Computer Use:
- One computer per student.
- Students are not allowed to reserve computers.
- Students with school related needs take priority for computer use. All work should be saved on a removable thumb drive. Thumb drives are NOT provided by Lab Staff, however they may be purchased from the bookstore. Students can also email documents to themselves or store it on the Laulima Website (laulima.hawaii.edu).
- All files saved on the computers will be deleted at the end of the day.
- During certain times the lab may be reserved and closed for workshops or classes held by faculty.(Students may only stay with the permission of the faculty hosting the workshop or class. Disruption of any type during the workshop or class will result in an immediate banning from the lab for that day.)
Printing/Scanning:
- Please keep printing of lengthy documents under 30 pages. Consult lab monitor if printing more than 30 pages.
- Students can provide their own unused/non-recycled paper or purchase printouts from a Lab Monitor for a small fee. If using the lab's paper, pay the lab back, in cash, according to the rate scale below:
- 1 - 5 pages, $0.10
- 6 - 10 pages, $0.25
- 11 - 20 pages, $0.50
- 21+ pages, $1.00
The Native Hawaiian Computer Lab is not responsible for:
- Loss of data.
- Damage to any diskette, thumb drive, or other medium.
- Loss, damage or theft of personal items. Do not leave personal belongings unattended.
Lab monitors are:
- Here to assist students but not to do your work for you.
- Here to help with software questions, but are not expected to know all programs.
Kapu Activities:
All students using the Native Hawaiian Center Computer Lab are required to comply with the University of Hawai'i IT Use Policy. The following activities are not allowed in this lab and will be cause for ejection from the lab facility:
- Eating and drinking.
- Smoking.
- Gaming of any kind.
- Recreational or personal chats (students needing to chat for class purposes must inform lab monitor first).
- Accessing of adult sites or material.
- Downloading or theft of copyrighted material from the machines.
ALL INFRACTIONS WILL BE RECORDED.
This is a study hall. Please work quietly and keep conversation to a minimum. Loud or otherwise disruptive students will be penalized as follows:
- First Offense: You will be warned.
- Second Offense: You will be asked to leave the NHCL for the rest of the day.
- Third Offense: You will be banned form the NHCL for a week from the date of penalty, or possibly longer, depending on the seriousness of the infraction, and past recorded SCL history.
Food and drinks are not allowed by the computers in the lab. If found eating and/or drinking near the computers, penalties will result as follows:
- First Offense: You will be warned.
- Second Offense: You will be asked to leave the NHCL for the rest of the day.
- Third Offense: You will be banned form the NHCL for a week from the date of penalty, or possibly longer, depending on the seriousness of the infraction, and past recorded SCL history.
Personal cell phones and/or pagers must be set to vibrate or silent. If calls are to be made or taken, please take it outside. Failure to comply will be penalized as follows:
- First Offense: You will be warned.
- Second Offense: You will be asked to leave the NHCL for the rest of the day.
- Third Offense: You will be banned form the NHCL for a week from the date of penalty, or possibly longer, depending on the seriousness of the infraction, and past recorded SCL history.
Headphones/ear buds must be quiet enough so that other users in the lab cannot hear the sounds. Failure to comply will be penalized as follows:
- First Offense: You will be warned.
- Second Offense: You will be asked to leave the NHCL for the rest of the day.
- Third Offense: You will be banned form the NHCL for a week from the date of penalty, or possibly longer, depending on the seriousness of the infraction, and past recorded SCL history.
No viewing of pornographic/adult materials. Viewing such sites will be penalized as follows:
- First Offense: You will be warned.
- Second Offense: You will be asked to leave the NHCL for the rest of the day.
- Third Offense: You will be banned form the NHCL for a week from the date of penalty, or possibly longer, depending on the seriousness of the infraction, and past recorded SCL history.
MANAGEMENT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ENTRY OR REFUSE SERVICE IF THE SITUATION DICTATES.
