Since October, 2001, F. Philip Handy has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Strategic Industries (with sales of $700 million); a worldwide diversified service and manufacturing company owned principally by Citigroup Ventures (CVC).
Until January, 2007, he served for six years as Chairman of the Florida Board of Education, a seven person board appointed by Governor Jeb Bush, which has constitutional responsibility for Florida's public educational system (over 4 million students).
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and graduated Cum Laude from Princeton University and later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. He completed the sixth forum at The Rugby School and graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon School and received the Doctorate of Laws "h.c." from Flagler College. He also served six years in the US Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1973.
Mr. Handy has owned and operated many businesses. They include Maryland Club Foods, a nationally branded coffee/beverage company (purchased from Coca Cola), Majik Markets, a 1000 store food/gasoline retailer, and Equality Specialties, a package decoration wholesaler. He has also served as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of two public companies....Chart House Restaurant Group and Rewards Networks. From 1996 through 1999, Mr. Handy was managing director of Equity Group Corporate Investments, a private investment firm controlled by Sam Zell.
Mr. Handy was a long distance runner who has successfully completed the New York, London and Sydney marathons. He is now a passionate bicyclist - both mountain and road.
This lecture is free of charge and seating is limited. Parking is available on campus for $3 after 4 p.m.

Tokyo College of Music High School in Japan and the University of Hawaii International Programs of Outreach College are celebrating 30 years of a special educational and cultural exchange through which hundreds of students have come to the University of Hawaii for a brief summer program of English language and culture. Each year, they have shared their tremendous vocal and instrumental musical talent as a culmination of the program.
In commemoration of the 30th anniversary, they perform in a free concert for the greater Honolulu community on Friday, July 11, at 7 p.m. at McKinley High School Auditorium. The first part of the program will feature Japanese songs and piano pieces and the second part will feature Rodrigo's Aranjuez guitar concerto and Mozart's famous No. 40 symphony.

The KIDS FIRST! FIlm Festival, a project of the Coalition for Quality Children's Media, travels to more than 100 locations nationwide each year, making it the largest kid's film festival in the world.
In its ninth year, the KIDS FIRST! Film Festival offers sneak peeks at new films from major studios, classic films, independents and shorts in a variety of styles including animation and live action.
The films are evaluated by juries of adults and kids and must meet the KIDS FIRST! criteria of: no gratuitous violence, no racial or cultural bias, no inappropriate content, and no condescension towards children.

The University of Hawaiʻi KIDS FIRST! Film Festival, presented by UH-Manoa Outreach College, returns with a another summer of free family fun!
The KIDS FIRST! FIlm Festival, a project of the Coalition for Quality Children's Media, travels to more than 100 locations nationwide each year, making it the largest kid's film festival in the world.
In its ninth year, the KIDS FIRST! Film Festival offers sneak peeks at new films from major studios, classic films, independents and shorts in a variety of styles including animation and live action.
The films are evaluated by juries of adults and kids and must meet the KIDS FIRST! criteria of: no gratuitous violence, no racial or cultural bias, no inappropriate content, and no condescension towards children.
